How do poems draw our attention to the paradoxes and contradictions that are at the heart of human rights discourse? A close reading of Deirdre Brennan’s poem ‘A Cuid Féin ag an bhFarraige’ (2007) / ‘ The Sea’s Claim’ (2017) brings our attention to the issue of human rights and surveillance technology, as well the plight of the illegal immigrants at sea.
